Baltimore Orioles sign Pete Alonso to massive five-year contract

The Baltimore Orioles have landed the best free-agent power hitter left on the market. The Orioles have signed free-agent first baseman Pete Alonso to a five-year, $155 million contract, pending a physical, as reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Alonso leaves the New York Mets after seven seasons.

The 31-year-old first baseman had a strong market, led by the Orioles, Mets, and Boston Red Sox. On Tuesday, Alonso met with Baltimore and Boston, as New York didn’t have much momentum. Now, the Orioles have a new first baseman through the 2030 season, as Alonso’s deal includes no opt-outs.
